NEW DATE FRIDAY 23 JUNE 2017 ALBANY WORKSHOPS: PREPARING TO PLAN & NEW STRATEGIES FOR RECRUITING YOUR OWN SUPPORTS Jaquie Mills — is the parent of four children, two of whom have a disability. Her eldest son has complex disabilities and behaviours which can be seen as very challenging. A former high school teacher, for many years Jaquie was one of the many parents around the country who are unable to work due to the support needs of their children with challenging behaviours. Her search for a good life for her son has lead to her exploring a number of other roles including Chair of the Positive Behaviour Framework Guiding Committee (hosted by the Disability Services Commission) and in 2013 was developer of ‘Is There a Better Way’ training, which has been has been delivered around the state and was designed to help other families experiencing challenging behaviour. Bronwyn Pike — Bronwyn has worked for over 20 years within a variety of human services with her focus on supporting individuals and families to plan, develop and self-direct their supports. Her current roles as Side by Side Coordinator at Developmental Disability WA and Individualised Services Adviser at WAIS, have seen her working closely with families to co-design support specifically targeted towards families who are living with challenging behavior. Tim Smith (PM Session only)—Since 1991 Tim has Coached and Mentored over 200+ select Australian Company Directors and Business Owners to make more profit and have more time back through Mentoring in leadership, leverage, sales and marketing, business management, business systemization, team building & strategic planning. A number of Tim’s clients have won business awards including; The Australia Post Regional Business of the Year, SW Small Business of the Year, Tourism awards and Global Rookie of the year for their franchise group. 2017 is a celebration of 26 years in business for Tim! He has owned a variety of franchising and non-franchising businesses in WA. He is currently the Director of a private company and recently retired Director and Chairman of a Public Company, Gosnells Community Bank (Bendigo Bank). We’ll explore the foundations of person centred thinking and planning and why this approach is important. We’ll share things you can do to prepare for your next plan now so that the process is easier and more inclusive of the person being planned with. We’ll discuss the challenges with being person centred and strategies for planning for people with complex disability too. This resource was developed by WAiS in collaboration with people with disability and their families. All participants will receive a free copy of the resource book and planning cards. Many employers find recruitment challenging and if you/your family are new to self or shared management it can help to hear how others have approached recruitment and found better ways to get the quality and consistency of support they need. This interactive workshop, co-facilitated by recruitment coach Tim Smith, will share examples of recruitment strategies designed to minimise your work, time and energy. We’ll talk about how to tailor your advertising, interviewing and staff selection to be most effective. There will also be the opportunity to workshop your specific recruitment questions and challenges.
