In the NDIS – Managing your supports

Easy Read mode is turned off.

Managing your support with the national NDIS

There are different ways of managing the funded supports in your plan.

You can choose from three different options for how you, or your Nominee, will manage your NDIS plan with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). You can choose one or a combination of these management options for different parts of your plan. Your three options are:

Self-management

Self-management is when you manage the funding and supports in your plan. You have total control and responsibility. You get your funding from the NDIS and pay your supports and services.

Plan Management

Plan management is when you get a Plan Manager to:

  • get your funding from the NDIS
  • pay your supports and services for you.

Your Plan Manager needs to be registered with the NDIS.

If you have a Plan Manager, there will be additional funding in your plan to pay them for their services.

Agency Management

Agency management is when the NDIS pays your service providers for you.

Your service providers are responsible for getting funding from the NDIS to cover the cost of the supports and services they provide you.

Managing your supports in the WA NDIS or with State Disability funding

There are different ways of managing the funded supports in your plan.

In WA NDIS or with State Disability funding, you can choose:

  • to manage the supports yourself, or your representative can
  • to ask a service provider to manage your supports
  • a combination of these.

Self Management

This is when the funding in your plan goes directly from the funder to you or your representative. You then manage all aspects of your funding, choose your providers and hires your own workers.

If you choose to self-manage any part of your NDIS in WA plan, your responsibilities can include:

  • choosing and arranging your own supports
  • arranging and engaging your own support workers
  • making sure the invoices you are given for your supports are paid on time
  • keeping appropriate records of, and receipts for, the supports you use, claim for or pay
  • reporting to the funder on the amount used and funds spent on the self-managed items of your NDIS in WA Plan.

Service Provider Management

This is when the funding in your plan, goes from the funder to the provider. The provider manages all aspects of the funding, however with good support, they do this in partnership with you. The provider employs the staff on your behalf.

Shared Management (an option under Provider Management)

This is an option to talk to your provider about. This is when the funding in your plan, goes from the funder to the provider. The provider helps you manage it. You then employ your own staff.
